The Surf and the Surfer

A body firmly and warmly

Enshrined in a suit of black

Protection against the elements

Of Water and wind

stretched out on a board

Arms and legs striving

For forward movement

Fighting the waves

One by one by one

An incessant lunar force

Boy against nature

Skillfully manoeuvring

Standing tall on each wave

Following it until its fading

Its dissolving back into its

Mother’s safe form.

The surfer claws his way back

To encounter and conquer

Another surge of watery swell

His skill and mastery of the sea

Is fleeting but so satisfying.
