Wilderness

Taking silent steps

treading carefully,

one foot after the other

into the surrounding wilderness

Holding my breath

trying to hide my escape,

enlightened or frightened

a dilemma I am afraid to address.

Drowning in the mire

of my own torrid thoughts,

my feet sinking into the boggy

depths of the wilderness.

The sound of my tired lungs

hidden to all but myself,

my body used up, and me missing

the point of this wilderness.
