Existence

I remembered the forgetting

and the pitiless bloodletting.

Obliterating any open wound

I dug deeper totally marooned.

A crippled child cried to me,

I ignored and could not hear

the awful pain in its voice

turning away I made my choice.

The snakes always led me down

the ladders nowhere to be found,

fatally wounded in my conscience

this was my dismal existence.
