Sunrise, sunset

Some of us watch the sun come up

and dream of it for the rest of our lives,

and on that rare occasion of an eclipse

keep the memory of its corona

as a moment when all comes together to

hold our lives in its sway

until the end of days.

Others watch it setting on the watery horizon

and never rise out of their oblivion,

trapped in the drowning waves,

sucked into a downward spiral,

gasping and grasping,

just about coming up for air

and clinging onto existence.
