A life that matters?

He was staging a comeback

on the cabaret podium

when a clown in a coffin

turned his head around,

his jaw just dropped

to the ground it fell

to believe in life

and not to fall to hell,

the sell out he had hoped for

just didn’t appear

one or two people

seemed all that would hear

what he had to recount

of a life worth living,

but he thought and he mulled

over circumstances just found

and his mind was at rest

and his heart felt quite fine

it mattered little of the numbers

that listened if only one had heard

and given him their ears

then that was enough

to bring him to tears.
