Peace of the dead

The peace of the dead
solid and carved in smooth stone.
The corpse really has no need for
that tombly reassurance.
The freshly cut grass
surrounds the upright reminder
of the once living, to the
presently sentient that
all life must come to an end.
A reminder of its preciousness,
of its ephemeral nature
and perhaps of its ultimate futility.
